Robert Coghill, PhD, is Director of Research and Senior Scientist in the Department of Anesthesiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where he studies the role of the brain in pain. In this RELIEF podcast, neuroscientist and science journalist Stephani Sutherland caught up with Coghill at March’s annual meeting of the American Pain Society (APS) to discuss his work and that of others aiming to decipher how the brain contributes to chronic pain. (APS brings together scientists, doctors, and other professionals to increase knowledge of pain and transform public policy and clinical practice to reduce suffering from pain. At the society’s annual meeting, Coghill won the Frederick W.L. Kerr Basic Science Research Award, which honors individual excellence and achievement in the study of pain).
